Foxtrot Liquor Bar: a cozy bar with trendy cocktails
Last month, I had the chance to visit Foxtrot Liquor Bar in the heart of Midtown. It was part a girls staycation /birthday bonanza. More on that, soon.
I immediately fell in love with the pretty fire pit they have going on outside and had it been a bit warmer, we’d have loved to enjoy a cocktail here, but the interior of Foxtrot Liquor Bar is just as inviting. A cute fireplace is on one corner, and plaid / houndstooth walls surround you as you are serenaded by the best 80s music playlist.
Though they have a terrific selection of craft beer and wine, they are known for their cocktails and that’s where I stayed. The cocktail list progresses from Bright and Lively to Herbal Remedies to Stranger Things. Start with the Life on Mars, a gin based drink with Orgeat and Earl Grey Bitters, or if you really like fruity, get the Spruce Goose, another gin based cocktail with pineapple and banana. My friend, who enjoys drinks that are light on the liquor really loved this one.
Below is the Flight of Phoenix cocktail, which falls into the medium drink category at Foxtrot Liquor Bar: Herbal Remedies. It was potent but not overwhelming like say a Manhattan might be. Sadly the perfectly prepared Pierogies, seen below are no longer on the menu. Served with a ham hock broth and pickled vegetables, they totally need to revive this dish.
The food menu is small (like just eight dishes), but incredible. We’d had a light lunch in anticipation of how delightful the food was going to be. We began with an order of Pimento Cheese Fritter and the Duck Confit Egg rolls. The fritters are served with a delicious green tomato jam. And the egg rolls come with two sauces: house made kimchi and a spicy Chinese mustard sauce. These two dishes didn’t last long in front of two hungry ladies. Sliders are fantastic and perfectly moist, not dried out or overdone as beef sliders often are.
Want to start your Friday happy early? Sure you do! Foxtrot Liquor Bar opens at 4 pm on Fridays. Plus, I can’t wait to take advantage of the back patio with spring and warm temperatures just around the corner.
